The congregation of Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (C.M.I.) had its beginning in the first half of the 19th Century. Blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara initiated the foundation of this congregation in the year 1855 in Kerala, (then it was the state of Travancore). It is a community of Catholic priests who have committed their total life for the service of God and his people.
The congregation started charitable institutions and schools throughout Kerala and later extended its activities of service to humanity to the other parts of India and abroad during the second half of the 20th century. Blessed Kuriakose Chavara, and his followers have made remarkable contribution in making the state of Kerala cent percent literate. Christ Senior Secondary School, Guna, is established and managed by the CMI Congregation.
